Key Initiatives

In today’s society, fostering diversity, ensuring equity, and creating an environment in which everyone can thrive have become essential missions for universities. When people with diverse backgrounds learn from one another and work together in educational and research settings, it leads to the creation of new knowledge and contributes to solving societal challenges.

With this perspective in mind, Tohoku University places strong emphasis on the principles of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) and is actively advancing initiatives to promote them.

Toward Advancing DEI at Tohoku University

We provide support to help researchers balance their work with life events such as childcare and caregiving. We are committed to creating an inclusive and supportive environment that respects diversity and enables everyone to realize their full potential.

This group of graduate students aims to communicate the excitement of science and the latest research in an accessible way. Through lectures and events, they connect people of all ages—from children to adults—with science.

This is a community space that promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion. Students, faculty, and staff can freely visit the space to engage in conversations, participate in events, and deepen learning and connection in an open and welcoming environment.

Dedicated offices provide a range of consulting and support services to ensure that individuals with diverse backgrounds or special circumstances can fully and smoothly participate in campus activities.
