Learn DEI

How can we eliminate gender gaps and foster diversity within our university community?

As stated in Tohoku University Declaration of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, our first step is to dispel unconscious biases related to gender, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability, ethnicity, nationality, religion, and beliefs — to achieve diversity. At the same time, we must build an inclusive environment where every individual is welcomed as a valued member of the organization and empowered to contribute.

Furthermore, in creating such inclusivity, we must ask: how can we ensure equity? And what does equity truly mean in practice? These are questions that call for collective reflection and dialogue.

To support this process of understanding, empathy, and action, we have established a platform titled “Learn DEI.” This space provides information and resources to encourage learning, discussion, and the shared pursuit of change across our community.

Tohoku University conducts a wide range of research and studies related to gender equality and DEI.

The Center for DEI offers and manages university-wide courses such as “Gender Co-creation Society,” “Inclusive Society,” and “Introduction to Gendered Innovations.” The Center also organizes various workshops and events related to DEI.

Here you can find newsletters and other publications issued by the Center for DEI.

The Center for DEI provides a lending service for books related to gender and diversity studies.
