International Support

There are approximately 2000 students from 86 different countries (including special research students), and over 400 international researchers.  

The center covers all over the university, and in addition, each department organizes the supporting system for international students and faculty.

For international students and researchers

We provide general support to international students, researchers, and faculty covering everything from a travel ticket, temporary accommodation, governmental documents, opening a bank account, looking for an apartment, etc.  In order to start a new life at Tohoku University in a safe and less-stressed environment, we provide suitable services to them.

For international faculty who need financial support for their children who need to go to Tohoku International School (English-spoken program)

This school is a private English school that is accredited by WASC.  After graduating from TIS, students are eligible to apply for universities all over the world including Japan.  If a student is a child of Tohoku University faculty/staff (not a child of Tohoku University student), the tuition fee may be reduced.
