【開催レポート】UPWARDS サマープログラム2026最終日 「交差性デザインカード」を用いたDEIワークショップを実施しました（2026/8/7）

「UPWARDS サマープログラム2026」の最終日である8月7日（金）、DEIワークショップが開催されました。当センターからは佐々木成江副センター長、鶴田想人特任助教、西野麗華特任助教に加え、サイエンスアンバサダー3名が参加し、日本およびアメリカの大学に在籍する学生10名とともに、「交差性（インターセクショナリティ）」の視点を取り入れた研究開発について議論を深めました。

交差性とは、性別、人種、年齢、障がい、社会経済的地位など、複数の属性が複雑に重なり合うことで生じる不平等や課題 を多角的に分析・解決するためのアプローチです。

ワークショップ冒頭では、佐々木副センター長より交差性の概念や、交差性の見過ごしにより製品開発において生じた具体的な問題やその解決事例が紹介されました。基礎的な知見を深めた後、「交差性デザインカード」を活用したグループワークを行い、互いの国の現状を共有したほか、性別（セックス／ジェンダー）の違いや 交差性を構成するさまざまな属性を確認し、普段意識する機会の少ない交差性について理解を深めました。

ワークショップの後編では、生成AIを活用しながら、参加学生の専攻領域である「半導体」に関して交差性を考慮すべき事例を共有し合いました。衛星緊急通報・通信システムをはじめ、レアアース採掘時の課題、スマートウォッチのセンサー機能など、多角的な視点から活発な意見交換が行われました。

参加したSAの感想

・As a researcher, I recognize how crucial it is to address underrepresentation in STEM, including sex, gender, ethnicity, and many more. Making science and innovation relatable to everyone is an ongoing journey, but acknowledging the gap is a vital first step. It’s exciting to see these efforts expanding across diverse research fields, including semiconductors.

・It is a challenge in science and technology to avoid biases in gender, race, cultural and ethnic identity, among others. It is important that we deeply understand this issue for us to provide interventions to address this. The lecture workshop was a good approach to provide information to younger generations and allow them to think of better ways towards an inclusive STEM for everyone around the globe.

・I was able to learn that there are more than just biases in gender, ethnicity, in STEM research,  but also other factors such as economic and cultural issues that we should address to improve and make better innovations. This workshop is a nice way to give awareness that there are lots of factors, and actual real case studies that we can learn from to take these intersectionality factors into consideration when doing our own research, not just within the field of semiconductors.
